In case you’ve been living in a technological cave over the past decade (and if so, why are you reading this?) the most profitable ventures on the Internet these days are those that incorporate a level of “Community” among their user base. Corporate Giants such as Facebook have grown to be the size they are because they found a way to increase the sense of Community among their customers. In fact, Facebook itself is all about Community, sometimes using gimmicks and games to try and increase the connections between people.

You may or may not be familiar with one of our web integration products … Rental Beam. Designed to compliment the hippoRENT™ Rental Management system, the Rental Beam service consists of a single plugin script that is added to each Rental Box. Once added, the Land Owner adds a simple bit of HTML to their website to display a real-time listing of all of their available Parcels. Unlike the similar service provided by Hippo Systems, the Rental Beam service allows the Land Owner to integrate the listing into their own website.

Our time away from the public eye wasn’t totally wasted. (Although laying around watching educational TV shows isn’t exactly “waste”, it sure isn’t immediately productive either.) We are pleased and proud that over time we’ve gathered a cadre of “Idea People” that are excellent at thinking up new gadgets, identifying needs and problems in their own use of Second Life, and willing to share those ideas and suggestions with us. When we are presented with a new idea or obstacle, we do what’s only natural for us … we invent a tool or device to address it.

Since the changeover from hosting with Dotster.com to DreamHost.com there have been a number of issues that have arisen … some of which are still ongoing and still causing problems. Most annoyingly they are almost primarily due to Dotster’s incompetent technical support and their abusive customer service practices.
The move from one host to the other was explained on the “Upcoming Change in DGP4SL.COM Web Host” page and also communicated to most of those that might be affected by In-World Notecard. Early this morning the changeover was begun and was mostly completed by 4 AM SLT. However, that’s when the REAL fun began.

It’s been a long time .. WAY too long .. since I’ve been able to post my thoughts, rants, kvetches and general ruminations on this blog. The reasons are many and varied (and yes, I’ll bore you with all the details) but it sure feels nice to be able to vent again. But first things first, what’s changed and why the Blog is back.
