After many years in the same location, the Rental Beam in-world store is in the process of moving. Our new location is not ready yet, we are still working on getting things set up. When we have the new location ready to go, we will let you all know where it is and how to get there.
Many thanks to all of our customers. Your loyal patronage and support have made it not only possible but desirable to take on this sudden necessary change.

Rental Beam began back in 2011 when I was approached by my Landlord with an idea. He wanted a way to post his available rental properties on his web site. That was the day that Rental Beam was born. Today might very well be the day that it dies. Allow me to explain.

The recent instability in the LindeX Exchange has caused a lot of people to begin questioning the reasons … and the solutions. But to really understand what is happening and why, first we must understand the Math behind the LindeX. Even though I’m not a trained economist, I do know math. Today’s post will hopefully explain things using math but in a basic manner that doesn’t require a sheepskin and a super-computer to comprehend.
The LindeX is a basic “Money Exchange”. That means it lets people exchange one type of money for another. The LindeX specializes in exchanging Linden Dollars for US Dollars. Just like many real-world exchanges, the rate of exchange is subject to many varied influences. Unlike real-world exchanges there is no regulatory agency or body of laws that oversee its operation. In other words, it can go nuts as a result of panic and misinformation, but there is no controlling agency to keep it from going too crazy.
Over the past few weeks, the value of the Linden Dollar has plummeted. There are lots of reasons suggested for this precipitous change. Today we’ll discuss some of my favorite theories. And I promise, you won’t need your Tin Foil Hat .. much.
Before we start let’s review some LindeX™ basics.
I have put off writing this post for a long time now, but it’s finally reached the point where I feel I must. It gives me no great pleasure to write it either, but sometimes I just have to say what I think. Today’s post is exactly that, me finally saying what I feel needs to be said. To put it bluntly … if you are using the hippoRENT Rental Management System then it’s time to find something else.

It’s no big secret that there are literally thousands of items for sale in Second Life™ that violate Copyright Law. When Mesh was added to the platform, the sudden flood of copied and otherwise ill-gotten items virtually exploded. For their part, Linden Lab has tried to keep a lid on things, but the attitude of most people using Second Life seems to be one of “everyone else is doing it.” To say it makes LL’s job harder is a gross understatement.
Today’s post comes about as a result of an interesting conversation I had with a fellow SL Resident about their intentions and opinions on Copyright Law. It was a follow-up of sorts to a post they made on the SL Forums asking for someone to help them break the law .. and my response to their post.

I spoke before about the two very different platform models embodied by Facebook and WordPress. Today’s post will take the Facebook perspective, present theories of how a Virtual Reality platform could be built using that model, then finish up by discussing the possible outcomes. I call it “Project FaceSanBookSar.”
It’s important to note that this post is also one of my “conjecture” essays. That means I have no insider knowledge or information, I just have a lifetime’s worth of experience doing stuff like this. Okay, disclaimer out of the way … let’s begin.
